In the Book of Proverbs, we find this wisdom, “Every word of God proves true.” (30:5).
I’m reminded of this truth when I read the story in Luke, Chapter 1 of the visit by the angel of the Lord to Zacharias, the priest in his old age to announce that Zacharias and his wife Elizabeth would soon be the parents of John the Baptist. Six months later the angel Gabriel visited Mary in her innocent youth to announce that she would give birth to the Son of God. The Lord had a sovereign plan for the life of Zacharias and Elizabeth, and their anointed son, John, and for Mary, the mother of Jesus, the Son of God. His plan was not created on the day the angels came to visit. The plan had been in place since the beginning. But when the plan was revealed to Zacharias and Mary, who submitted themselves to God, their lives changed forever.
Zacharias and Mary set an example for followers of Jesus Christ in how they responded to the messages they received. They listened, received the message from the Lord, and conducted themselves by faith in the fulfillment of what was asked of them. God’s promises proved to be true in their lives, and the impact of their obedience is eternally true for the world.
We would do well to follow this example in response to the prompting of the Holy Spirit in our lives. God’s plan for us was already in place from the beginning. Our responsibility is to listen, understand, and act by faith. When we humbly submit ourselves, God’s promises prove true in our lives as well. What impact can you have on your areas of influence when you choose to walk by faith in God’s plan for you?
In this new year of 2024 let us commit our hearts to receive the truth of God’s Word and submit our hearts to follow after Him – knowing that His promises are still true.
Proverbs Chapter 30 is not the only place we find affirmation of God’s Promises. In 2 Corinthians 1:20, we read: “For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.” (NLT) When we walk in obedience to God’s Word, we fulfill God’s plan, and His name is glorified.
We can rely on the Word of God. It is His Plan. The King is Coming!
