A Commitment Like No Other
When was the last time you committed to a mission of love that would preempt everything else on your calendar, consume your entire life, and still lead you to praise God for the privilege? How did you respond?
Mary of Nazareth was busy planning the formal mitzvah of marriage to Joseph, to whom she was betrothed, when she received the news from the angel Gabriel that she had found favor with God and had been chosen to be the Mother of Jesus (Luke 1:26-31). Mary submitted to the Lord, saying, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38 NKJV). Mary’s response was to give praise to God (Luke 1:46-55).
Simeon, a righteous and devout man, had been informed by the Holy Spirit that he would not die until he had seen the Comforter of Israel. When Jesus was presented at the temple, Simeon saw the baby at the temple, he knew that God had fulfilled his promise. Simeon praised God for allowing him to see the “light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel.” (Luke 2:25-32)
Anna, the prophetess, had been a widow for many years. She was devoted to God and spent many years in fasting and prayer, both night and day. When she saw the baby Jesus, she gave thanks to God and began to share the good news of the coming of the Redemption in Jerusalem to all who would listen. (Luke 2:36-38)
Mary, Simeon and Anna each demonstrated their commitment to God by giving thanks for the privilege of being used for His purpose. The Lord is calling Christians to righteousness, devotion and commitment to the mission for which we have been purposed. How are you demonstrating your response to Him?
The King is coming! Are you ready?
